Miwa Neishi Bowl (Tsutsu Style) No.4
Anzu requested a bowl for tea, coffee and matcha from Miwa, who usually makes mainly sculptural vases. The bowls she delivered were fun to look at in detail. The expression of the bowl changes depending on the angle, - each bowl tells a story, its color expression complex. I think that these are the kind of bowls that will grow in the owner’s appreciation with each use.
Miwa Neishi is a Tokyo-born, New York-based artist, whose sculptural works draw inspiration from abstract expressionism, prehistoric clay figures, and Japanese calligraphy. Neishi has studied and worked in various regions in Japan and in the US, exploring art in both contemporary and traditional perspectives.
Her sculptural flower vases are made to invite people to connect with the elemental forms of life—earth and nature—in their homes. The placements of the openings of each work are playful, sometimes challenging, to open the new ways of looking at arrangement. Each vase is hand built using a variety of wild clays. Each pot is able to hold water for flowers and clippings, their unique arrangement completing the work.
Miwa is currently working with ceramics at Sculpture Space NYC in Long Island City, NY. Her works are showcased throughout in the U.S. (including the renowned Noguchi museum in NYC), Europe and in Japan.
dimensions: 3.25Ø x 3.13 in.
